Pink eye is condition where the eye and the conjunctiva gets irritated and inflamed. The white of the eye may seem very red. There are various reasons why people get pink eye. Here are the major causes:
- Infection which can be bacterial or viral
- Allergy
- Chemical irritation
- Glaucoma or increase pressure in the eye
This last one is really not a true form of conjunctivitis but if you are in doubt of the reason why your eyes are so pink you should check for glaucoma especially if you haven't had any of the above causes.
How can you tell the difference:
Infectious Pink Eye
The main sign is that is usually only affects one eye. There is sensitivity to light, prominently scratchy and swelling around the eye lids. A discharge of pus and mucus will many times also be present especially in the mornings.
Allergic Pink eye
Present in both eyes at the same time mostly even though one may be more prominent in some people. Severe itching and the presence of other symptoms of allergies such as hay fever, rhinitis etc.
There is a simple cure that is accessible to everyone and it is the lemon cure.
